About the event
Carolina Mercado, a tenor saxophonist from Guadalajara, currently resides in New York City. He began his formal jazz studies at the Jazzuv Studies Center and continued at LaFaro Jazz Institute under the direction of maestro Agustín Bernal. He has participated in various festivals in different states of the republic such as International Jazzatlán Festival, Jalisco Jazz festival, International Jazzuv Festival, among many others. He was part of groups such as Guacamole (jazz-hip-hop band), the National Jazz Orchestra of Mexico, Four Paths (group made up of female jazz players), among others.
Winner of the IX Pan American Jazz Saxophone Contest of the UNAM- Latin American level
2016, as well as various full scholarships to attend seminars and workshops such as Tónica International Seminar, Xalapa International Jazz Encounter, etc.
Several of the names that helped his musical development are teachers such as Agustín Bernal, Rafael Alcalá, Arturo Caraza, Miguel Zenón, Aaron Goldberg, Matt Penman, Reggie Workman, Dave Glasser, Matt Wilson, Dave Schnitter, Sam Yahel, Chirs Cheek, John Ellis, Reggie Workman, etc.
In 2017 Carolina was awarded one of the most important scholarships in Latin America by the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation which allowed her to begin her studies at The New School of Jazz in New York City. In 2019 she won a scholarship to attend the 2019 edition of the renowned Amsterdam seminar "keep an Eye" by the Amsterdam Conservatory. He performed in Paris under his name and also in Tel-Aviv, Israel in one of the most important jazz clubs of the scene “Beit-Hamudim”.
Carolina continues her studies in the Big Apple and playing in various projects around the city as well as in Mexico.
